1990 Inkjet Stamp Cancellation Trial PDF Print E-mail

In 1990, a trial using an inkjet printer to cancel stamps on envelopes was carried out at the Preston Mail Centre in Victoria.

The Toshiba culler facer cancellers then in operation used a high speed rotating cancellation die for the imprint. This was a high maintenance item often producing an imprint that was not clear to read.

An inkjet printer was fitted to oner of the Toshibas and tested using a small number of envelopes. As the results were satisfactory, it remained in operation for a short period using live mail.

Some examples of the test mail may currently be found in our stamps AU shop.
