"How do I value my grandfather's collection" PDF Print E-mail

At stamps AU, it is common to receive an email asking how to value a collection of stamps left by a grandfather, aunt etc to a non-collector. Obviously, in the first instance, it not worth buying expensive catalogues. The first requirement is to get a rough idea of the value which, in turn, will help determine the path to follow.

We are not stamp dealers. Our speciality is preparing our range of catalogues so we cannot get involved in the detailed examination of collections.

Our advice is generally along the following lines:

You can get an idea of the catalogue value by using a stamp catalogue from your local library.

Probably the next move is to approach your local stamp club for advice who may be able to recommend a dealer or auction outlet,
