Hongkong Post would hold its first fundraising auction of stamp products and banknotes on Saturday (May 24), the Postmaster General, Mr Tam Wing-pong said today (May 20). The auction will be in the Counter Hall, 1/F, General Post Office, at 11am.

Due to the venue's space constraints, seats will be given on a first come, first served basis. The auction will be conducted by Sotheby's Hong Kong, which is offering voluntary support to this charity event. In addition to the auction service, Sotheby's Hong Kong will donate two times the total reserve price of the auction items. All money raised will be donated for earthquake relief in Sichuan province.

Hongkong Post has produced a limited edition of 10 frames of the "Mainland Scenery Series Nos. 1-7" special stamp sheetlets for the fund-raising auction. The "Mainland Scenery Series" special stamp sheetlets have been issued every year since 2002. They reflect the beauty of some of the most scenic natural locations in China, including Hukou Waterfall, the Master-of-Nets Garden in Suzhou, the Chen Clan Academy in Guangzhou, the Qiantang Bore, Mount Taishan, Shilin in Kunming and Huanglong. Except for "Mainland Scenery Series No 7: Huanglong", all other stamp sheetlets in this series have already been withdrawn from sale, adding even greater value to these 10 frames.

The "Mainland Scenery Series Nos. 1-7" special stamp sheetlets are framed and include a gold-foiled Hongkong Post logo. Other prestige stamp products will be combined with the framed stamp sheetlets to create unique choices for bidders. The majority of these products are last stocks from the stamp vault of Hongkong Post. The reserve price is HK$10,000 for each item. (Details are listed on  the web site.)
