The French rural city of Jargeau, like most, has the usual churches, stately homes and statues to tempt the visitor. It has one other attraction that makes it unique for the visiting philatelist - it houses the Musée Oscar Roty. Roty was noted, among other things, for his "sower" which has been used on both French stamps and coins for many years. Unfortunately, we visited Jargeau on the wrong day for two reasons. It was a Monday - and the town effectively closes on Mondays - and it was not summer. The Museum is only open in the summer months. However, the town did pose a number of interesting mysteries that a reader may solve. The Town Square has an old style English phone box, similar to the type frequented by Dr Who, and nearby was a "London" style street posting box. Where did they come from? What is the link between this town and things English?
